About Me
I have been working in the leisure industry since 1985 when I joined a company providing sailing holidays in Greece & Turkey. The company offered dinghy, windsurfing and yachting holidays to beginners and experts in a variety of locations. I stayed with that operator for 6 summers working up from my first season as a windsurf instructor to my last 2 seasons as Area manager for Turkey, overseeing 2 windsurf centres, a dinghy sailing centre and 2 flotilla yacht fleets plus a yacht training operation. Alternating with this work I was employed for 6 consecutive winters by a ski tour operator which provided holidays in France & Switzerland, where I was working as Transport Manager for 18 ski resorts. I worked at the Olympics in both Barcelona & Albertville and spent the rest of that year obtaining the qualification for and working as, a SCUBA Instructor.
I began working on private yachts in 1993 when I joined a delivery from Palma to the Canaries. Since then I have been continuously employed on a variety of yachts for both private & charter use. As I have been furthering my career over the years my role has changed according to the requirements of the job: Chief Stewardess, Purser, Watch leader & Mate. For the most recent 2 years I have been First Mate on a UK flagged MCA Commercial yacht. With a view to continuing to maximise my potential as a reliable, experienced and effective team member I have now completed the MCA Oral Exam for OOW (3000t) and I currently hold Chief Mate Status.
Skills which are required to provide a first class service to owners of luxury vessels are multiple and I believe that the following represents a selection of the abilities which I possess:
· Owner & guest liaison with the emphasis on excellent communication
· Safety awareness and a good knowledge of all operational requirements & equipment
· Knowledge of MCA documentation requirements and formalities
· Formal Safety Officer training & understanding of ISM standards
· Interior & exterior maintenance & cleanliness ensuring very high standards of yacht presentation
· Galley management and provisioning
· Financial accounting & budgeting
· Medical training with 8 years on board experience of being appointed as designated Medical Officer
· Staff /crew management, training & team leadership
· Administration & computing skills
· Good understanding of all ancillary equipment
